To help cruisers comparing cabin options on Royal Caribbean’s newest ship, we have our Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony Cabin Review. During our recent sailing on Odyssey of the Seas, we stayed in a cabin on deck 13, room 13578.

Reviewing the deck plans, this starboard side balcony cabin is considered a category D balcony stateroom. This cabin had a pretty typical layout and usual amenities when compared to other Royal Caribbean balcony cabins.

During the 2-day inaugural cruise on Odyssey of the Seas, we were assigned this stateroom from the cruise line. For convenience, we requested to stay in this same stateroom for our second sailing if possible instead of switching to our deck 6 balcony cabin.

On the morning of disembarkation, Guest Services informed us that the manifest for this new sailing had stateroom 13578 empty, so we would not have to move our belongings to a new cabin. Stateroom 13578 would also be our home for the next 5 days.

This room was located fairly midship. It was also a short walk up to the pool deck and other outdoor areas on Odyssey of the Seas.

Further, taking the stairs down to the indoor public areas on decks 4 and 5 wasn’t a big deal either. Of course, we took the elevator back up those 8+ decks. Though, getting an elevator was never an issue.

According to Royal Caribbean’s website, the category D Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony cabins are 182 square feet with a 55 square foot balcony.

Layout of an Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony Cabin

At first glance, we were happy to see our Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony Cabin had a familiar layout, very closely resembling other Quantum Class ships. We were also glad to see that the room had the more neutral color palette with pops of blue for the carpet, décor, and linens.

Immediately entering our stateroom, the bathroom was to the right. Beyond the bathroom was the bed flanked with his and her closets as well as overhead storage compartments. One closet was a full length clothes bar with hangers while the other was half clothes bar and half shelving.

The Royal king bed was on the right (aft) wall. There was a small night stand on each side of the bed.One side of the bed had a power outlet and the other side had a USB port in the cabin telephone. Across from the bed was the television.

Continuing past the bed and closet setup was the sitting area and desk. The seating area on the right included a somewhat larger sofa but no coffee table.

The desk, positioned on the left, had a small shelf as well as two power outlets and 2 USB outlets. Adjacent to the desk was a dresser that included drawers for more storage and the fridge.

Finally, there was the balcony. At 50 sq. ft., the size of the balcony is what we have come to expect from mega-ships.

Inside the Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony Cabin

The bathroom in the Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony is similar to other newer ships in the fleet. It has a somewhat more contemporary and upscale feel, and possibly even a bit more space.

There is a cylinder-shaped shower with a glass door and a strategically designed sink and toilet area. The shower features a coveted shaving bar as well as two small shelves to store bath toiletries.

The vanity area contains a few small shelves to the right and some counter space. Overall, there was adequate storage for the week. It also helps that we always bring an over-the-door shoe organizer to store toiletries and other small items.

The closets provided adequatespace to hold all our clothes between the hangers and several shelves. One of these closets also housed the safe. We did appreciate the two large over-the-bed storage areas. These compartments came in handy during the course of the week to store bags, our souvenirs, and other items.

The bed in this Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony Cabin provided adequate comfort during our trip. I also appreciated the USB outlet near the bed to charge my phone overnight.

The sitting area was somewhat roomier than usual. While it often becomes our storage space, we also use magnetic hooks to hang things like beach bags and hats on the wall over the couch. We never ordered room service, so we didn’t really miss the coffee table.

The usual desk area had a mirror, adequate counter space, and 4 total outlets. It served its purpose for me to get ready and to charge up all our devices during the course of the week. The adjacent dresser drawers were also convenient to store our devices, cords, and other gear. It helped to avoid some clutter on the counter tops.

Lastly, the balcony contained two upright chairs, a small table, and enough space for the two of us to enjoy the ocean views and sail in and out of ports, even if it did feel a bit more closed off than usual.

Recap of Our Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony Cabin Review

Similar to our experiences on other Royal Caribbean cruise ships, the Odyssey of the Seas Ocean View Balcony was the perfect mix of size and value. The bed was comfortable, and the space was adequate.

Our stateroom location provided easy access to the stairs and elevators.

The main cabin and balcony square footage were on par with most balcony staterooms on contemporary cruise lines. We most appreciated the USB outlets in the room and the amount of storage space. We always like having the his and her closets, and we love the over-the-bed storage compartments.
