For cruisers comparing the different stateroom options onRoyal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas, we have put together our Harmony of the Seas balcony room review from a recent sailing in 2023.

We stayed in an Ocean View Balcony on Deck 7, stateroom 7622, during ourWestern Caribbean cruiseon this ship. Reviewing the deck plans, this 2D category starboard cabin is located fairly midship. Further, it is a fairly equidistant walk to either the forward or the aft bank of elevators.

Being on Deck 7, it was also a quick walk to many of the happenings in the Royal Promenade (Deck 5), Central Park (Deck 8), or the Boardwalk (Deck 6). Further, we never had much of an issue securing an elevator during our cruise.

The only slight inconvenience was that you could not cross from portside to starboard side on Deck 7, so we needed to ensure we were on the starboard side when heading up or down to our cabin, whether using the stairs or the elevator.

According to Royal Caribbean’s website, this Harmony of the Seas balcony room is 182 square feet with a 50 square foot balcony. This size is relatively on par with most balcony cabins from contemporary cruise lines.

What’s a Harmony of the Seas Balcony Room Like in 2023?

Layout of Our Harmony of the Seas Balcony Cabin

At first glance, the layout of this stateroom on Harmony of the Seas was pretty typical for a newer Royal Caribbean cruise ship. The décor featured neutral tones with blue accents. While it did show slight signs of wear, it was pretty well-maintained given the ship is over 7 years old.

Immediately upon entering our Harmony of the Seas balcony room, the bathroom was tucked around the corner to the left. The bed was just beyond also on the left (forward wall) facing aft and flanked by closets. The television was located on the wall opposite from the bed, and there was a small nightstand on each side of the bed with only one power outlet though.

Continuing past the bed was the sofa on the left and the desk on the right, closer to the balcony. While this is not our preferred layout, it did not impact the overall functionality and flow of the stateroom.

Finally, there is the balcony which included two upright chairs and a table. The size was somewhat larger than other balconies on modern megaships, allowing enough room for the two of us to enjoy the ocean breezes between ports of call.

Inside Our Harmony of the Seas Balcony Cabin

Bathroom

The bathroom in this Harmony of the Seas balcony room was your pretty typical cruise ship bathroom. It featured the standard Royal Caribbean capsule-like shower stall with a glass door and a strategically designed sink and toilet area.

The shower features a coveted shaving bar as well as a small shelf to store bath toiletries. Unfortunately though, Royal Caribbean only provides one dispenser of a nondescript hair/body wash unlike more premium lines that include shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.

With a few small shelves and some counter space, there was adequate storage at the vanity/sink area. It also helps that we always bring an over-the-door shoe organizer to store toiletries and other small items.

Closet

The closets in our Harmony of the Seas balcony room included a number of shelves, clothes bars, two drawers, and the safe.

The closet to the left of the bed featured a small clothes bar, 5 small shelves which we used to store packing cubes, and two underneath drawers that we used to store shoes. The second closet to the right of the bed featured a larger clothes bar with hangers only.

These his and hers closets provided adequatespace to hold all our clothes and shoes for a week-long Caribbean cruise.

Main Cabin Area

The bed in this balcony cabin is closer to the cabin entrance with small nightstands on each side. However, only one side of the bed has an outlet (no USB outlets), making it difficult to charge phones at night.

The bed itself did provide adequate comfort during our trip. We had no issues falling asleep after our long days and nights on the ship.

The desk/vanity area featured adequate counter space with a small ledge shelf above for storing toiletry items. It also housed the majority of outlets in the room, including 3 US outlets, 1 European outlet, and 2 USB outlets.

Adjacent to the desk was a dresser. This area provided additional counter space along with 5 drawers to store our additional packing cubes, electronics, and other gadgets. This is where the mini-fridge was located as well.

Across the way was the sofa. It provided adequate space to spread out, relax, or get some work done. Additionally, one of our space saving cabin hacks is that we use magnetic hooks to hang things like beach bags and hats on the wall over the couch for extra storage and convenience.

Balcony

Lastly, our balcony featured two upright chairs and a table. There was certainly enough space for the two of us to enjoy the sail in and out of ports. It was also a great spot to relax or get some work done in the afternoons.

Recap of Our Harmony of the Seas Balcony Room Review

Similar to our experiences on other Royal Caribbean cruise ships, this Ocean View Balcony cabin met our needs for this 7-day Caribbean cruise.

This stateroom category provides the perfect mix of size and value. It provides all the necessary amenities, adequate space, and access to a balcony without breaking the budget. While Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class ships do feature balconies with interior views (i.e. Central Park or Boardwalk balcony cabins), we prefer the ocean view– even if it typically costs more.

Of course, there are more economic options on the ship, like inside and ocean view rooms, as well as more extravagant suite accommodations. So, be sure to review all the stateroom categories and subcategories, as well as which cabins you should avoid, before booking your cruise.

NEW! Harmony of the Seas Balcony Cabin Review (8)

Overall, if you are looking to cruise on this ship, we would certainly recommend booking a Harmony of the Seas balcony room.

The main cabin and balcony square footage were on par with similar staterooms on contemporary cruise lines. The décorwas modern, and there was ample storage. The one thing the room lacked was USB outlets, with only two located near the desk. So, bringing a cruise-approved power strip is recommended.

The fresh air

For me, this is the big reason to get a balcony cabin. At any time of the day — or night — you can slide open your balcony door and breathe in the fresh ocean air. You'll also be able to hear the sounds of the waves as they crash against the bow of your ship.

Leaving Your Balcony Door Open Can Make a Mess

Is it easy to fall off a cruise ship balcony? ›

Although many characterise man-overboard situations as “falls”, the very nature of the safety elements in place makes accidental falls virtually impossible. Unfortunately, the vast majority of cases involve reckless behaviour or some form of intentional act. People don't just inadvertently fall over the side of a ship.

Which side balcony is best cruise ship? ›

Eastbound cruises get the most sun on the port side; westbound on the starboard side. Watching a sunset over the ocean or seeing the sun slip behind distant islands can also be a reason for a side preference. What is the best room position on a cruise ship? ›

The lower and more central you are in a ship, the less roll and sway you will feel. Even if you choose a balcony room, choose a low level and a room closest to the ship's center. The higher decks and cabins at the front (forward) or back (aft) of the ship will rock and roll the most.

Is deck 4 on a cruise ship good? ›

Deck 4 cabins are normally quiet. And for a smooth ride in rough seas, midship on that deck, especially in an inside, is the smoothest place on the ship. That's one reason the medical center is usually there.
